βThe joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and
hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon,
for each day to have a new and different sun. β
~ Chris McCandless as quoted by Jon Krakauer, Into the Wild
After selling our home and all possessions not cherished enough to merit taking up space in a 15×10 storage unit, we set out on May 21, 2014 in a brand new Ford Escape (the “Escape Mobile”) to explore the United States.
This blog chronicles the preparation for and adventures of the six-month journey ending November 15, 2014.
We have been settled back in Austin since 2016 and are ready to again embark on extended new adventures… this time on new shores. See “Europe 2023” tab.
Yes, you will figure it out together…you always have and you always will. Just one more reason to admire y’all. Can’t wait to live vicariosly through your travels. I will miss you bunches!
Love you, mean it, Deatra

Really excited for your new adventure across the pond! So fun to share in your travels through pictures, since it can’t be in person. Looking forward to seeing the photos of where this journey takes ya’ll, and hearing all the stories upon your return.
